A process in organic chemistry which involves the coupling of amino acids or short peptide sequences in order to form longer polypeptide chains.
There are two methods for synthesising polypeptides with or without the use of a solid resin substrate. Where the resulting product is insoluble or immobilised on a resin bead the Nutsche filter is a very useful piece of equipment that consists of a stirred vessel, possibly jacketed, with an integral perforated plate at the bottom.
Filter leaves of varying pore size and material can be fitted which filter the slurry thereby separating the mother liquors from the resin beads.
